My Favorite Live Event hand engraving tools
Getting your first live event booked can be overwhelming, but I got you! Whether you're an experienced engraver or just starting, having a well-prepared toolkit can make all the difference. Today, I want to share some of my favorite tools that have become indispensable for me during my live hand engraving events. All of the tools you see here are tools I have purchased myself and have used during my live events.
The Yokefellow Drill is a cornerstone of my engraving toolkit. Known for its reliability and precision, this drill allows for intricate and detailed engraving on various materials. Its ergonomic design ensures comfort during long engraving sessions, making it an ideal choice for live events where performance and endurance are key.

YOCTOSUN Magnifying Glasses with Light
Engraving requires exceptional attention to detail, and the YOCTOSUN Magnifying Glasses with Light provide the perfect solution. The built-in LED lights illuminate the working area, ensuring optimal visibility even in dimly lit environments. They are also easy to travel with and light. I would carry back up batteries just in case though.
Stabilo Aquarelle White Pencil
Before making any permanent marks, I use the Stabilo Aquarelle White Pencil to outline my designs. This pencil's white pigment is perfect for drawing on dark surfaces, providing a clear guide that can be easily wiped off once the engraving is complete. It's an essential tool for planning and precision. I also use a Micron marker in case I cannot see the Stabilo pencil.
Satin Fabric for Backdrop for Pictures
Presentation is crucial, and a beautiful backdrop enhances the visual appeal of the engraved items. Satin fabric is my go-to choice for creating elegant and professional backdrops. Its smooth texture and subtle sheen make the engraved pieces stand out, creating stunning photos for clients and social media. I have two: a black one and a cream colored one.
Good lighting is vital for hand engraving, especially at live events where the lighting conditions can vary. A portable light ensures that I have consistent and adequate illumination, allowing me to focus on the details of my work. It's a compact and convenient addition to my toolkit. I would order two of these because sometimes the events last longer and the battery will wear out. If I don’t have an outlet, having a backup is essential.
Keeping my workspace organized is essential for efficiency and productivity. A pencil holder helps me keep all my drawing and marking tools in one place, making it easy to switch between them as needed. It's a simple yet effective way to maintain order during busy events.
To protect both the engraved items and my hands, I always wear black rubber gloves when applying rub. These gloves provide a secure grip, reduce the risk of smudging, and keep my hands clean from any residues. They are comfortable and durable, making them perfect for prolonged use.
For precise cleaning and polishing, black cotton swabs are indispensable. Their dark color makes it easy to see any residues being removed, ensuring a clean and flawless finish. These swabs are gentle yet effective, making them ideal for delicate engraving work.
Black Small Pillow as an Arm Rest

For the final polish and cleanup, black microfiber cloths are a must-have. They are highly effective at removing dust, fingerprints, and any other residues without scratching the surface. These cloths ensure that the engraved items are presented in their best possible condition.
Keeping all these tools organized and portable is made easy with a travel makeup bag. Its compartments and pockets allow me to neatly store and transport my engraving essentials. This bag is not only practical but also stylish, making it a perfect fit for live events.
Eurotool Cut Lube is a must-have for smooth and efficient engraving. It reduces friction and heat, prolonging the life of my burs and ensuring clean, precise cuts. This lube is easy to apply and makes a noticeable difference in the quality of the engraving.
